• A landlord took his case to court after the Tenancy Tribunal decided to let a tenant off a big bill for damaging his property.
• The tribunal’s decision worried landlords that if they had insurance, tenants wouldn’t have to pay even in cases of carelessness.
• However, the District Court has overturned the decision & ordered the tenant to pay costs, including court costs & lost rent.
• The Judge said he was “of the view” that the tribunal adjudicator was wrong for concluding the damage was unintentional.
