The Government insists there is no housing crisis & Auckland houses are cheap. Young home buyers shouldn’t give up – they need to keep saving.

• In parliament last Tuesday, Social Housing Minister Amy Adams & the National Government averred that NZ housing is not in a crisis nor does it exacerbate inequality.

• Adams said there are 3770 apartments due to be completed this year & 1800 listings in Auckland for properties worth less than $600,000.

• However, the author contends that young people w/ normal income can never keep up with the avg. annual increase of $114,000 in Auckland.

• Adams quoted stats suggesting record numbers of new apartments are being built – without noting that this will never meet population growth & address the supply & demand imbalance.
