Claims for P contamination appears to be a “worrying trend” in NZ. The worst part is when the claims cannot be lodged further.
• A landlord in Auckland spent up to $140k of remediation & decontamination of his rental property after tenants left it contaminated with methamphetamine.
• The contamination was so severe that everything had to be hollowed-out & stripped.
• It is the 2nd time one of his rentals has been contaminated by P, & he never got compensation from tenants because of their unknown location.
• MBIE says Standards New Zealand will soon issue guidelines on meth contamination for landlords, managers, regulators, testers & insurers, giving guidance on how to get a consistent, effective approach for testing & fixing P-contaminated places.
