Auckland’s population growth pain & affordable housing shortage continue as 71,300 more migrants arrived in New Zealand than left.
• Acc. to Statistics NZ, population growth from migration was at 71,300 in February 2017, gaining a new annual record of 128,800 arrivals (4%), while migrant departures were 57,500 (1%).
• The number of people arriving on work & residency visas was up while student visas were down.
• The largest sources of migrants coming to New Zealand to work were from the UK and France, followed by Germany, Australia, South Africa, & the US.
• More New Zealanders continue to leave than arrive back, w/ a net loss of 1687 NZ citizens a year, & a net gain of 73,020 citizens of other countries.
