Chinese-owned Changda International Development’s $700m Pacific Gardens project will see more than 1100 houses built on a 9.4 hectare site beside the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau, Auckland. Expected to take up to seven years to complete with a price tag of less than $400,000 to more than $1 million, ranging in size from one- to four-bedrooms.

Chris Jones, who’s part of the Pacific Gardens leadership team, says stage one of the project includes 21 apartment units and 21 terrace and standalone houses.

Construction of the first homes will begin at the end of this year and they’re expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Stage two includes an additional 62 apartment units and more than 40 terrace homes.

Construction [of these properties] will commence in mid-2018 for completion in mid-2019,” Jones says.

“Changda’s overall goal is to have 100 to 150 homes being marketed and or under construction each year.”

Jones says the project is targeted to include “at least” one hotel and possibly a retirement village.

It will have a community and residents’ association that will run various activities for residents.

There will also be almost a hectare of open space and parks as well as a walkway connecting Pacific Gardens to the whitewater park and Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa.
