Statistics from Trade Me showed weekly rent for 3-4 bedroom house, which made up nearly half of the listings, had reached $500, up more than 30%.

• Acc. to Trade Me, the median yearly rent for a typical house in NZ has hit $26k from $380 a week or under $20,000 per annum in 2012.

• In the last year alone, rent on a 3-4 bedroom house across the country had risen 4.7%, up 2.7% to $575 in Auckland & 10.1% to $545 in Wellington.

• Information from Crockers and Barfoot & Thompson also showed rents were up in Auckland, Wellington, Bay of Plenty & Northland, but not in Christchurch.

• Large houses with 5 or more bedrooms had the highest median weekly rent of  $975 a week across the whole country.
