12 out of 15 regions sustained strong GDP growth in the financial year to March 2016, acc. to Statistics NZ.

• Bay of Plenty tops the country’s GDP growth at 7.7%, with Auckland in 2nd place w/ 6.0% & Otago sits in 3rd w/ 4.8%.

• Waikato, Wellington, Canterbury & Manawatu-Whanganui grew by more than 3%, while Taranaki, West Coast & Southland recorded decreases in GDP growth.

• Despite the decrease, Taranaki still retains the highest GDP per capita at $71,297, followed by Wellington at $67,888 & Auckland at $58,717.

• Over a 5-year period, Marlborough has been the countries fastest growing region at 32.3%, followed by Canterbury at 31.9% & Auckland at 31.1%.
